People try to interpret the world through religion and philosophy, ideas and written words. Those frameworks can open a path of study, but if we are trapped only inside them, it is easy for a mind that judges and divides others to grow.
The teachings of not establishing words and letters, and directly pointing to the human mind, do not mean we should throw words away. Ord er tegn, der peger på vejen. But if we grasp only the sign and do not actually walk the road, we cannot see the mind directly.
No matter how many times we repeat the word fire, the body does not become warm. In the same way, suffering does not come to rest merely by explaining and comparing teachings.
We must see how the mind is shaken, examine how discrimination arises, and try changing today's words and actions. Then the teaching becomes not knowledge in the head, but strength in life.
Today, set down for a moment the words and judgments you are holding, and put one teaching into actual action.
