When We Know the Fundamental Meaning, Speech Becomes a Right Path
There is a teaching that when we thoroughly understand the essential aim of the teaching, the fundamental meaning, there is no fault even in verbal expression. Words can sometimes deceive people and obscure the teaching, but words that arise from awakening become skillful means that guide sentient beings.
What matters is not whether there are many or few words, but where those words come from. If we do not know the root and cling only to words, it is like the sun hidden by clouds. When we know both the root and the words, it becomes bright like the sun in a clear sky.
The Buddha's words are not simple explanations; they are a path that conveys wisdom. When we speak, we too should speak not from a mind that insists I am right, but from a mind that helps the other person and reveals what is true.
Today, do not remain with the words themselves. Look into the fundamental meaning to which words point, and live the day with right speech.
