Find Small Joy Even When Things Are Not Perfect
Perfectionism may look like sincerity at first, but when it goes too far, it makes the mind heavy. If we regard an entire day as a failure simply because everything did not go as we wished, even the small progress already made and the small good intentions already offered become hard to see.
Life is always like a slightly crooked teacup. Even when its shape is not perfect, it can still hold warm tea. Even if we did not finish everything we had to do today, if we took one step forward and gave someone a small joy, the day was not wasted.
Practice is not waiting for perfect conditions. It is finding the good intention we can offer even amid insufficiency, and choosing one good action even amid worry. Rather than losing the mind while waiting for perfection, doing one small good thing possible today is more living practice.
What matters in this teaching is not forcing the mind to look better or trying to change it all at once. First, notice where the mind is caught right now, and from that very place choose one step in a more upright direction. Practice is not a special event far away; it appears in the expressions, words, judgments, and care of the day.
Even when it is not perfect, the day is precious. I will look for today's good intention rather than perfection. Today too, may this teaching become a small choice in daily life and brighten the mind.
