When Anger Is Calmed, Warmth Returns to the Mind
On a cold day, a warm cup of tea or a warm room feels especially precious. Our mind is like this too. Beside a person whose mind is warm, we feel ease and happiness.
We do not always need to look far away for the cause of unhappiness. Great practice and awakening are important, but when the mind is not warm in everyday life, unhappiness can draw near.
One of the main things that makes the mind cold is anger. A mind filled with anger finds it difficult to bring forth compassion, affection, and the wish to care for someone.
When we get angry, it may seem in the moment that we are speaking strongly. But later, it often becomes a minus in our relationships and remains as regret. The other person does not welcome that anger, and my own mind becomes colder as well.
If you want to spend a warm and good day, first look at anger and calm it. When anger rises, pause for a moment and gently turn your words and actions back. Then the warmth of compassion comes alive again.
Just as warmth feels more precious on a cold day, the mind too becomes happy when it is warm. Do not look only far away for the cause of unhappiness; first look at the anger that makes your own mind cold. Anger easily becomes a minus in relationships and leaves regret behind. Today, calm anger and spend the day with a compassionate and warm heart.
