When We Let Go of Comparison, We See the Happiness Already Here
We all wish to live happily. So we try to do better, and we work to make a good life. Yet at times, not because we have not tried, but because of the mind that compares us with others, we lose our own happiness.
Looking quietly, there are good and steady parts even in life as it is now. But when we look at someone who has more than we do, someone who seems more capable, or someone who seems to live better, the mind easily feels a sense of lack.
The comparing mind keeps us from seeing what is already here. Our health, relationships, the opportunity of this day, and a small peace have not disappeared. Yet while looking at what belongs to others, we miss our own place.
Practice is not removing the large and small differences outside us. It is observing the mind that looks at those differences. When comparison arises, if we notice, "Even now, I am all right," the mind can return to its place.
Today, rather than making ourselves small by comparing with others, may we look into the gratitude and happiness already given within our own life.
One major reason we lose happiness is the mind that compares ourselves with others. Even now, there are things within our own life that are good and steady. Today, rather than envying someone else's life, may we look at the gratitude already given to us now.
